Spring has finally sprung, and Bath residents will celebrate the return of warm weather at the city’s annual Mayfair festival this Saturday.
The event will kick off with the citywide yard sale, hosted by residents, businesses and nonprofits all over downtown Bath, and will vary in time and location.
According to Mari Eosco, the interim director of Main Street Bath, the city’s first Mayfair event only featured the citywide yard sale, but has now grown to include a variety of downtown features and activities for residents of all ages.
“It’s a celebration of spring and it gets people out of their homes after a long cold winter,” she added.
Children and families can enjoy Maypole dancing, face painting and popcorn at the Customs House Lawn by First Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Balloon and toy giveaways will also take place at Island Treasure Toys from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Tony’s Dance and Fitness will host Zumba Kids and games from 1-2 p.m.
Residents can also walk by City Hall to see or participate in sidewalk chalk art, hosted by Morse High School volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the annual tent sale will take place at the Water Street parking lot behind Reny’s, and new Bath business Ebb and Flow Yoga, located on 149 Front St., will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Food will also be included in the festivities, as the Farmer’s Market will celebrate its opening day at Waterfront Park from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A pickle and jam tasting will also take place at Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a cooking demonstration that will be given at Now You’re Cooking from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents are also encouraged to participate in a scavenger hunt, with forms available at local downtown business or at the Main Street Bath website.
Finally, after a long day of community activities and shopping, residents can wrap up the day at a Livingston Taylor concert that will take place at the Chocolate Church Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $32 at the door.
“It’s a really fun time for neighbors to gather together and be with the community,” Eosco said.
