NEW GLOUCESTER (AP) — New Gloucester fire officials say passers-by who called 911 then started throwing snow on a fire they spotted in a mobile home may have saved the resident’s life.
Capt. Scott Doyle says the people were walking past the home when they noticed the fire on a side porch at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
They called 911, and then grabbed handfuls of snow from a nearby snowbank to throw on the flames.
They checked the door and found a resident inside who didn’t know about the fire.
Doyle says had the Samaritans not taken action “there could had been a loss of life and the home,” and with high winds, “things could had been much worse in a matter of minutes.”
