
Bowdoin’s season record stands at 9-14 entering this weekend’s three-game New England Small College Athletic Conference series against Trinity (Friday single game, Saturday doubleheader). The Eagles are 18- 12.
In the opener, the Bowdoin pitching staff combined for eight straight shutout innings. Michael Staes started the game, going three innings, while notching one strikeout and four hits. Max Vogel-Freedman came in to record another three innings of work, fanning three with one hit allowed. The bullpen kept the Eagles off the board until Brandon Gendreau singled down the third base line, driving in the walk-off run.
Dennis O’Neil went eight innings on the mound for Husson, delivering six strikeouts with two walks. O’Neil allowed four hits.
Bowdoin wasted little time in putting runs on the board in game two. The Polar Bears scored three quick runs to begin the game, beginning with an RBI triple from Aaron Rosen, who later scored on an Eagles error, and Chad Martin put the Polar Bears up three as he came home on a wild pitch.
Husson responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the first, capitalizing on a pair of doubles and a single to right-center field.
Bowdoin put up seven more runs in the second and fourth innings to pull ahead 10-3. Sam Canales’ triple to right field drove in Chris Nadeau, and Rosen collected two more RBIs with a single to left. The Polar Bears’ bats continued to produce in the fourth asErik Jacobsen drove home a run with a single to left field. Martin quickly followed with a two-run triple. Bjorn Hansen drove in Martin with a sacrifice fly.
Husson answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth, but Bowdoin tacked on two more as Martin homered to left and Christian Corneil doubled, allowing Kyle Bishop to score.
Connor Rooney started on the mound for Bowdoin, going three innings with three strikeouts and four hits before handing the ball over to Duncan Finigan and Kyle Stanley, who recorded the save with 3.2 innings of work, allowing just two hits and one earned run.
Men’s lacrosse
Colby closed the game on a 5- 2 run to defeat Bowdoin, 13- 9, on Tuesday evening.
The Mules improved to 7-5 (3-5 NESCAC), while the Polar Bears fell to 3-10 (2-6 NESCAC).
David Nemirov had three goals and two assists in the loss for Bowdoin, while Matthew Crowell, Daniel Buckman and Brandon Lee had two goals each.
Kevin Seller led Colby with three goals.
Peter Mumford made 16 saves for Bowdoin in the loss. Tyler Will had 13 saves for the Mules. Colby held a 49-36 advantage in shots and won 15 of 25 face-offs in the game.
The Polar Bears will look to return to the win column on Saturday at home against Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
Softball change
The Polar Bears have added a tripleheader to their schedule on Sunday.
Bowdoin will host Tufts in the third and final game of their NESCAC East Division series at noon on Sunday. The two-time defending Division III champion Jumbos took the first two games of the series in Medford, Mass., last weekend.
Bowdoin will then host the University of Maine- Farmington in a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. in relocated games originally scheduled to be played at Farmington.
The Polar Bears are slated to play their home opener today at 3:30 p.m. against the University of New England.
