Annual Scholarships for students enrolled in construction-related programs are available again this year from the Maine Chapter 276 of the National Association of Women in Construction.
Awards of $500 and $1,000 are given for 1-4 years to construction (or construction related) students at any post-secondary college, university or community college. Recipients are selected based on financial needs and scholastic achievement, depending on the chosen courses, whether it’s learning a skilled trade or civil engineering. Scholarships are available to men and women, and though they are reserved for residents of Maine, students may be attending schools inside or outside of Maine.
Applications are available at http://www.nawicmaine.org/scholarships; the deadline is May 1 for new applicants. For more information, email nawicmaine@nawicmaine.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
