Saturday, December 20, is Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway’s annual Victorian Christmas celebration. Train rides and all the day’s other fun events are free.
The first train departs Sheepscot Station at 10 a.m. and travels to Alna Center where riders can disembark to visit Santa Claus, ride behind a horse-drawn wagon or sleigh (depending on snow level), enjoy a bonfire, and light refreshments before returning to Sheepscot.
Patrons who decide to stay between trains should count on an hour-and-a-half visit. Also there’s often a long line to take the train, which could be another hour. There are light refreshments in the gift shop.
This event will be held rain, snow, sleet, or shine.
The railway is located at 97 Cross Road in Alna. 97 Cross Road is on the west side of Route 218, in a shallow valley. GPS systems often take people to the wrong address. GPS (Latitude/Longitude) coordinates are 44.0603º N x 69.6238º W. Cross Road is approximately 4.5 miles north of Wiscasset.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
