David was born at home on Floral Street in Bath on April 19, 1935, to Velma L. (Swain) and Everett D. Crocker. Raised in East Brunswick, he attended Brunswick schools. He worked for Washburn Lumber Co. for 22 years and Coastal Trans for 19.
On March 26, 1955, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Babine, and together they raised four children in their home in West Bath. They later divorced. David spent the last 31 years with his loving companion, Judith Kenney, with whom he shared a special love and many wondrous adventures.
David enjoyed many activities throughout his life, from smelting on the New Meadows River and ice fishing with the Coastal Boys to boating on the Kennebec. He was an avid fisherman and loved being on the water. David served as a volunteer firefighter at the West Bath Fire Department for many years. He raced stock cars for many years at tracks throughout Maine and was a huge NASCAR fan. He had a great love of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed playing cards with the boys. He possessed a great sense of humor and always loved to hear or share a new joke. In later years, he enjoyed bean suppers, flea markets, yard sales and spontaneous road trips with no known destination. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Earl (Sonny) Crocker; and three sisters, Rena Rodd, Ruth Whittier and Carol Piedmont.
He is survived by one sister, Gwen (Bebe) Barron of Holiday, Fla.; his four children, Katherine Wood and husband Richard of Bath, Marie Brittingham and husband Keith of Milton, Del., David (Danny) Crocker Jr. of Moorsville, N.C., and Arthur J. Crocker and wife Jaye Trimm of Gardiner.
David is also survived by his beloved companion, Judith Kenney of Woolwich and her three children, Vivi Kenney-Stilphen and husband Robbie of Topsham, Deirdre Sileo and husband Mickey of South Portland, and Trina Fraser and husband Dennis of West Bath; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed by them all. May he rest in peace.
At David’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. A celebration of David’s life will take place at a later date.
