The Polar Bears, who held the Seahawks to just 20-percent shooting from the field in the game, improved to 4-2 with the win. Salve Regina dropped to 3-3 with the setback.
Bowdoin had a balanced attack led by 16 points from Shannon Brady. Marle Curle added 10 points, while Siena Mitman contributed 10 points off the bench.
Meaghan Harden had 14 points to pace the Seahawks, while Allyson Esielionis also saw double figures with 11.
Bowdoin jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first seven minutes, capping a big run to open the contest with a Lauren Petit 3-pointer. The Polar Bears continued to roll for the rest of the opening period and held Salve Regina to just one field goal over the final 7:28 of the period to take a 47-14 lead at halftime.
Salve Regina found a little spark early in the second half and used an 11-0 surge to trim the Bowdoin lead to 27 points, 52-25, with 11:30 remaining. Bowdoin answered with a 13-1 run of its own to put the game away.
The Polar Bears held a 55-32 advantage in rebounds and forced 23 Salve Regina turnovers.
Bowdoin will return to action on Wednesday evening as they host the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
Men’s hockey
The Polar Bears scored three goals on the power play and two shorthanded in a 6-1 win over Wentworth on Saturday on the opening day of the Bowdoin-Colby Face-off Classic.
Six different players scored for the 11th-ranked Polar Bears.
Bowdoin put the contest out of reach with a four-goal outburst in the final 10 minutes of the first period. John McGinnis got the Polar Bears started with his sixth goal of the season with a shorthanded tally, picking up the puck in neutral ice and wristing a shot to the top-right corner at 10:11.
Just over three minutes later Bowdoin converted on the power play as Brendan Conroy found Daniel McMullan for a one-timer at 13:22. The Polar Bears added to their lead just 24 seconds later as Spencer Antunez redirected a Jay Kourkoulis shot to make it 3-0. Bowdoin closed out the frame with another goal as Mitch Barrington cashed in a power-play goal with assists from Ryan Collier at McGinnis with 37 seconds remaining in the period.
Bowdoin pushed its lead to five goals in the second period when Danny Palumbo scored again on the power play, putting home a feed from McMullan at 5:22. Wentworth (4-3-1) scored its only goal at 11:02 on a power play as the Leopards swung the puck around to Stephen McManus, who put home a topshelf score to make it 5-1.
The Polar Bears replied just before the second intermission when Connor Quinn went coast-tocoast, weaving through defenders and tucking a shot inside the right post with 11 seconds left in the frame, making it 6-1.
Peter Cronin made 28 saves in the victory for the Polar Bears. McMullan and McGinnis ended with a goal and an assist each.
Joel Miller played the first period for Wentworth, allowing four goals and stopping 14 shots. Alex Peck stopped 13 shots, permitting two goals, over the final two frames for the Leopards.
On Sunday at Waterville, senior goaltender Max Fenkell turned aside 27 shots to lead the Polar Bears to an 8-0 win over Salve Regina.
The Polar Bears remained unbeaten at 6-0-1, while Salve Regina dropped to 3-4-2 with the loss.
Bowdoin returns to action on Friday at Connecticut College, with face-off slated for 7 p.m.
Women’s hockey
Bowdoin skated to a 0-0 tie with Holy Cross on Saturday evening behind a 34-save shutout from goalie Lan Crofton.
The Polar Bears collect their second consecutive tie to open the season at 2-0-2. The Crusaders are 6-1- 1. This is the first scoreless tie for Bowdoin since a battle with Yale during the 1995-96 season.
Holy Cross controlled the majority of the opening period, putting 12 shots on net, but were unable to best Crofton. Emily Lissner looked to convert on a wraparound shot with 8:15 off the clock, but Crofton moved to close the hole.
The second frame was more of the same, with quality looks on both sides, but the scoreboard remained at zero. Maureen Greason clanked a shot off the left post and watched as it dropped behind Alexandra Stevenson just shy of the goal line. Stevenson turned around and dove to cover the puck. Julie Dachille broke through a pair of defenders for a open look at the Holy Cross net, only to flip the puck over the crossbar.
The Crusaders outshot Bowdoin by a 34-19 margin, including a 5-3 edge in overtime.
The Polar Bears host Nichols College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
