BIDDEFORD — Two dead bodies were found at the Sleepy Hollow Motel on Tuesday, according to Biddeford Police.

Deputy Police Chief JoAnne Fisk said the deceased found at the 297 Elm St. motel are one male and one female. Names are being withheld until next of kin can be notified, she said.

According to Fisk, Biddeford dispatch received the report of the dead bodies at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The cause of death has not been disclosed but state police spokesman Steve McCausland told the Associated Press there is no indication the deaths are homicides.

The bodies have been taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner, and the Maine State Police are assisting Biddeford Police in the investigation, said Fisk.

Whether that department takes over the investigation depends on the results from the medical examiner.

In the case of murder, State Police take over the investigation for municipal officers, except for the city departments in Portland, Lewiston and Bangor. If homicide is ruled out as the cause of death, Fisk said, the Biddeford Department would remain in charge of the investigation.

No further information was available at press time.
