BRUNSWICK — The Dave Child Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Mere Creek Golf Course (former Brunswick Naval Air Station) on Sept. 21.
This 9-hole scramble begins at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The cost is $200 per team and includes golf, a cart and a barbecue. There is a maximum of 25 teams.
The goal of the event is to raise enough money to install a lighted flagpole, which will be dedicated to Child, a former U.S. Navy master chief petty officer who spent more than 20 years serving his country. Child managed three golf courses in Maine, was a rules official and was the director of Maine State Golf Association. He also was the executive director of the Maine State Golf Course Superintendents Association.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
