Several area police departments were at a South Freeport Road home Monday night as police tried to make contact with a man inside who had been threatening suicide with a firearm.

According to a press release issued Monday night by Freeport Police Department, Freeport police were notified at around 10:30 a.m. Monday that 40-year-old Bryan Kennedy of Falmouth was threatening suicide with a firearm as reported by his father; and that Kennedy may be in Freeport. Police searched possible addressed for where he could be but determined Kennedy was not in Freeport at that time.

Police say however that at around 3 p.m., Kennedy did come to the residence of his ex-wife, Stephanie Vares, on South Freeport Road in Freeport.

“Police responded to the residence and set up a perimeter, notifying neighbors of the situation and prohibiting motorists from being in the area,” the release states. “Several attempts were made to communicate with Kennedy and Vares to no avail.”
