PORTLAND — The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Keury De La Cruz as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 11-17.
De La Cruz hit .688 (11-for- 16) with two doubles, two home runs, four runs scored, three RBIs, three walks and a stolen base in five games last week. The 22 year-old hit safely in all five games and collected four multiple hits game, including a pair of three-hit performances.
In 57 games this season, De La Cruz is hitting .303 (63-for-208) with 13 doubles, five home runs and 24 RBIs. He entered the season ranked as the Red Sox No. 14 prospect according to MLB.com. The La Romano, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on February 6, 2009.
De La Cruz is the fourth Sea Dogs player to earn Eastern League Player of the Week honors this season joining Sean Coyle, Deven Marrero and Mookie Betts. Additionally, Sea Dog pitchers Henry Owens, Mike McCarthy and Brian Johnson have all earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
