Gavin “Scotty” Falconer, 84, smiles Tuesday night at a meeting of the Kennebunk Board of Selectmen while recounting the efforts of two Kennebunk Police officers who saved his life last week. Falconer was the subject of much media attention when he was pulled over for speeding, and then experienced a sudden shock to his health, which temporarily robbed him of his pulse.
Officer Matthew Harrington, who is also an advanced emergency medical technician ”“ as well as a Republican candidate for the Maine House District 19 seat in Sanford, where he lives ”“ restored Falconer’s pulse with the aid of equipment brought to the scene by fellow KPD Officer Michael Tucci.
Both officers were recognized at Tuesday’s meeting, and Falconer himself was also honored. He was given a pink shirt with text on one breast that reads, “I Survived A KPD Traffic Stop,” pictured below. Falconer, who was recently released from the hospital, said he’s still sore, but starting to feel better.
“It’s a hell of a way to get attention,” he said jokingly. “I’m always at the right place at the right time. (But) I’ll try not to let it happen again.”
