Wings Over Wiscasset has its second annual airshow and other events on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9 at Wiscasset Municipal Airport. Except for Friday night’s swing dance, at $35 a ticket, admission is free. Donations, however, are encouraged and will be accepted at the gate and from a series of “bucket brigade volunteers” throughout the twoday event.
All donations will be matched 100 percent, and will go to support several local nonprofits that assist veterans and youth.
Here is the schedule of events:
Friday, August 8:
American Legion pancake breakfast, 8 a.m.
Static displays of warbirds and other aircraft, military vehicles, beginning at 8 a.m.
Fly-in for planes and experimental aircraft, all day
Museum exhibits open at 10 a.m.
Vendors open at 10:30 a.m.
Brunswick Area Modelers, 10:30 a.m. to noon; 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
WWII encampment tours 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kids music show at noon
Mad Science show 1 p.m.
“Mini air show,” approx. 1:30 p.m.
“Walk and Talks” at warbirds with pilots and veterans, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Big band swing dance, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday, August 9:

Warbird air show with Mark Murphy and Texas Flying Legends, 3 p.m.
Warbird photo opportunity, and pilots’ and veterans’ open discussion, 4 p.m.
Tickets for the Big Band Swing Dance, featuring Compaq Big Band are available at Ames Hardware, the Wiscasset Community Center, and online at http://wingsoverwiscasset.org/purchase-tickets/. People are encouraged to wear period 40’s costumes and reenact a WWII wartime dance. All funds raised will go to cover the costs of the air show and any additional funds will be distributed to the nonprofits.
