BUXTON – The Buxton Community Days organizer said that last week’s annual event was a success and weather played a key role.

“Community Days went amazing,” Tasha Pinkham, Buxton Recreation Department director, said on Tuesday. “We were blessed with perfect weather.”

The annual festival, held July 19, included the Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton fair held on the lawn at Tory Hill Church, where society members served lunch under a tent. Sharon House, who helped serve lobster rolls, said the crowd this year stayed after the parade.

“Last year, it was too hot to eat,” House said.

Activities in Weymouth Park provided plenty of food, fun, demonstrations and entertainment. Dominik Merrill, 8, son of Gregory and Sarah Merrill of Buxton, was one of many youngsters who enjoyed pony rides.

Pinkham said this year’s road race drew a record number of participants; the parade was long and enjoyable; and she described the fireworks capping the festival on Saturday night as beautiful.

The Dorcas Society staged a Victorian fashion show in the barn at the Royal Brewster Mansion with Carla Turner narrating. Turner described the various layers of garments worn by a real life model.

Pinkham praised all the town officials who helped with the festival.

After all was over, there was plenty of cleanup to be done.

“I’m thankful to the Boy and Girls Scouts of Buxton, who helped cleanup the trash,” Pinkham said.
