Dermody shaves head for cancer fundraiser
Megan Dermody of Gorham is one of 46 mothers in this year’s St. Baldrick’s Foundation campaign to raise funds and awareness to conquer kids’ cancer.
Dermody and the other team members will have their heads shaved at the Prudential Center in Boston on July 27 in the fifth annual St. Baldrick’s 46 mommas “Shave for the Brave.”
Dermody’s son, Finnian, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in November 2011. After surgery, he lost the ability to walk and speak. It took him a year to start walking again and three months to speak, and he continues to improve daily. “Finn is currently in remission and never ceases to amaze his family with his strength and bravery,” a St. Baldrick’s statement said.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven and donor-centered charity dedicated to funding childhood cancer research. The 46 Mommas team was created in 2010 with a goal of raising $1 million for pediatric cancer research and has raised more than $1.4 million.
