SOUTH PORTLAND – The global humanitarian organization Rotary International has presented its Significant Achievement Award to the South Portland Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club for its work on the 2014 WinterFest South Portland. The Club is one of 207 from more than 35,000 clubs worldwide to earn this recognition this year. The award was presented during the Wednesday, June 11, assembly at Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth.
Rotary Club President Ellie Speh, who accepted the award with WinterFest Co-Chairs Kathy Cotter, Scott Irving, Alec Livingston and Tony Wagner, said, “WinterFest worked because dozens of like-minded volunteers came together and made it happen. We are Rotarians and the Significant Achievement Award is a very special honor and a perfectly timed motivator, because we have already started planning the next exciting WinterFest, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2015.”
The Rotary club and the city of South Portland produced WinterFest. Local businesses and organizations such as Port Harbor Marine, which funded a new ice rink at the Wainwright Recreation Complex, The Cape Business Alliance and South Portland Cape Elizabeth Buy Local were also instrumental. Like each Rotary project, WinterFest brought together service organizations and businesses for the benefit of the community.
