SOUTH PORTLAND – Dennis Fogg, owner of Uncle Andy’s Diner in South Portland, said he’s pleased with the work done by the crew of “Restaurant Impossible,” which spent three days making over the diner and the menu last week.
Fogg can’t discuss the filming for an episode of the popular Food Network show, which he said would likely air sometime in mid-July, but did say the process went well.
The goal of “Restaurant Impossible” is for Chef Robert Irvine to use a budget of $10,000 to transform struggling eateries all across the country.
Uncle Andy’s, which has been a staple in the Knightville neighborhood for more than 60 years, was selected to appear on the television show after all four of Fogg’s children submitted requests for help from Irvine.
The Fogg family has owned Uncle Andy’s for about 10 years and turned it from a bakery into a more classic diner with a focus on offering breakfast staples.
It was one of Fogg’s hopes that with the help of Irvine, the family could figure out how to add a dinner menu and stay open into the evening hours going forward.
The diner was shrouded in secrecy and Ocean Street in front of the diner was closed off to traffic while filming took place June 9-11. While Fogg can’t talk about what happened until the episode featuring Uncle Andy’s airs, patrons are welcome to come and see the transformation.

Uncle Andy’s in South Portland is the subject of a Food Network reality show scheduled to air in July.
