SANFORD (AP) — Fire marshals say they are still investigating a backyard pit fire that badly burned a 2-week-old Sanford infant.
Police say Callum Jeising suffered second- and third-degree burns when his father’s coat caught on fire while he was holding the child on Wednesday night.
Investigators say the father, 43-year-old Dirk Jeising, had been drinking, but it was unclear if that played a role in the accident. Police say fire marshals are investigating and will consult with the York County District Attorney’s office when the investigation concludes.
