FREEPORT – The Freeport Project Review Board will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, to discuss preliminary approval of a subdivision that first came to the town’s attention five years ago.

The Beech Grove Heights Subdivision is a residential subdivision on Beech Hill Road. The Project Review Board on April 9 granted conceptual approval for the subdivision, with no special conditions. Following the May 21 pubic hearing, the board will consider preliminary approval for the plan.

Caroline Pelletier, assistant to the town planner, said Monday that the applicant, Urban Trust of Boston, will apply for Department of Environmental Protection approval if the preliminary OK is granted. The Project Review Board then would vote on final approval, Pelletier said.

The subdivision would include 26 lots and a new private road 3,400 feet long off Beach Hill Road. The subdivision would allow room for 52 acres of open space.

Adrianna Contartese, daughter of the late Michael Contartese, a local doctor, is the owner and a trustee of the Urban Trust. The trust had previously allowed the approval to expire when the bottom fell out of the housing market. During the original review process in 2009, there were questions regarding the trust and rights, title and interest in the project. Urban Trust made revisions to the legal documents.

Pelletier said that residents in the area had also raised questions concerning drainage into nearby Richards Lane. Some of those concerns appear to have been alleviated, Pelletier said.
