SANFORD — Kevin Gardner, builder and restorer of antique stone walls and author of “The Granite Kiss,” published by Countryman Press, will give a presentation at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Goodall Library in Sanford.
Gardner will explain how and why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls, the ways in which they and other dry stone structures were built, how their styles emerged and changed over time, and their significance to the famous New England landscape, according to a statement from the library.
A question-and-answer period will follow, during which listeners are encouraged to bring up specific problems or projects on their own properties.
Since the publication of his book, Gardner has presented his program at dozens of historical societies, bookstores and libraries all over New England, including Canterbury Shaker Village, the New Hampshire Historical Society, Castle-in-the-Clouds, Old Sturbridge Village and Boston’s Arnold Arboretum, according to the library.
Goodall Library is located at 952 Main St. in Sanford, with the entrance on Elm Street.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
