WELLS — Wells Elementary School held a Celebration of Reading Day on Feb. 28 to commemorate the birthday of “Dr. Seuss,” children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel. Guests visited each classroom where they read to students.
Wells Food Service offered Dr. Seuss menu items, and staff wore Cat in the Hat headgear. Parent volunteers manned the welcome table and escorted the guest readers to their assignments. The 44 community readers read books about animals or a book that was a favorite from childhood, and reinforced the importance of reading in everyday living.
“Celebration of Reading Day is always a wonderful day for the students, staff and the guest readers,” said community resource coordinator Maryanne Foley, who coordinated the event. “Having the community involved in promoting the importance of reading gives the students a different perspective. We love having visitors come in to celebrate reading with us.”
