“Under Milk Wood,” a play for voices by Dylan Thomas, will be performed by Five Seasons Productions, in association with Alfred Parish Church, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, and 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25. Shows will take place at Alfred Parish Church, on the green at Routes 202 and 4. The production comes at the 100th anniversary of Thomas’ birth. The work is set in a small, Welsh seaside village, from early one spring morning to nightfall. A reception and opportunity to meet the cast will follow in the church hall. Tickets are $10 per person. Gunmetal Blues, a musical spoof of film noir, will show at City Theater in Biddeford Jan. 24 through Feb. 2, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Set in the Red Eye Lounge with a jazzy score, this show follows Sam Galahad as he searches for a missing blonde in a world of smoke and mirrors, shadows and shattered dreams. “Story Time Upside Down” will be presented by the Nasson Community Center Youth Theater program Jan. 17-18 and Jan. 24-25. The original play is a collection of popular children’s stories in which characters such as Red Riding Hood, Bo Peep, the Three Blind Mice and more all intertwine to tell an entertaining tale for all ages. The production is being put on by participants in Nasson’s after-school theater program, which is focused on mentoring youth through theater and encouraging interest in the arts. “Tap, Tap, Jazz” will be presented by Maine State Ballet at the Maine State Ballet Theater in Falmouth on Jan. 24-25. Shows are 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. An Evening of Schubert’s “Die Winterreise” will be performed Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. in the Corthell Concert Hall on the University of Southern Maine Gorham Campus, 37 College Ave., Gorham. Snow date is Friday, Jan. 31, 8 p.m. Artist faculty Malcolm Smith, bass, and guest artist Paul Wyse, piano, will perform. Drumbalaya, a Kennebunk/Arundel drum circle, will start again Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hive in Kennebunk, 84 Main St. Drumbalaya is a freestyle experience and beginners are welcome. This circle is the first in a monthly schedule of fourth Wednesday circles at the Hive. Admission is $5 at the door. Some extra drums and rhythm toys are available for use. “Guitar Passion” with Sharon Isbin, Stanley Jordan and Romero Lubambo will perform at The Music Hall, in the Historic Theater, 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, N.H., on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. These three master guitarists will perform an evening of classical, Latin, Brazilian and jazz music. Wooden Eye will perform roots music as part of the First Parish Federated Church Concert Series on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. This rare acoustic performance will take place at First Parish Federated Church, 150 Main St. in South Berwick. Wooden Eye blends of blues, rock ‘n’ roll, folk and country. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For advance reservations, call 450-8746. A spaghetti supper to benefit the Friends of the South Berwick Library will be held in the church vestry prior to the show. The supper is tentatively scheduled from 5-7 p.m.
Time Riders, a local band that performs oldies music, will be performing at the Waterboro Grange Hall, 31 West Road, on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 7-11 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Waterborough Historical Society. Marc Cohn, a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, will perform live at Jonathan’s in Ogunquit, 92 Bourne Lane, on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m., with Rebecca Pidgeon opening. James Montgomery, a blues performer, will perform with the James Montgomery Band at Jonathan’s on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. Montgomery is known for his harmonica playing and blues performances. “Boy Meets Girl: Portland Ballet Dances the American Songbook” will be performed Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. with a post-show reception at which audience members can meet the professional dancers of PBC, as well as choreographers Nell Shipman and Roberto Forleo. Shows will be at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater, 517 Forest Ave., Portland. The show features music by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and songs such as “I’ve Got You Under my Skin,” “The Lady is a Tramp” and “Mambo Italiano.” Dancers portray the usual characters found out on a Friday night: the happy couple, the flirty waiter, the all-girls table. A winter dance concert featuring contemporary dance will be performed by Thornton Academy students on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18 in the Harry P. Garland Auditorium at Thornton Academy. The show is at 7 p.m. and costs $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. The show will feature Thornton’s dance company in works by Emma Arenstam Campbell, program director; Thornton Academy alumna Angela Bell, Class of 2005; and student choreography. Guest pieces will be performed by Berwick Academy students, Portland Youth Dancers and Brooks Dance members.

Several community art workshops are scheduled on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heartwood College of Art, North Dam Mill, 2 Main St., Bldg 17-223, in Biddeford: Jewelry with Alice Carroll; Watercolor with DeWitt Hardy; Encaustic Painting with Berri Kramer; Book Arts with Bonnie Faulkner; and Pastel Painting with Wade Zahares. Northway Family Art will show at the Dyer Library in Saco Jan. 1-31, featuring the work of Eva Northway, 9, and Connor Northway, 14, along with that of their parents, Claudia and Ray Northway. Eva and Connor are showing several pieces in various media including painting, chalk and collage, while Claudia and Ray each exhibit a selection of recent photographs that will be for sale during the exhibit.

“After Hours: Work by Maine Art Teachers,” organized by the Maine Art Educators Association, will show Jan. 14 through March 1 at the Saco Museum, with an opening reception Saturday, Jan. 25 from 1-3 p.m. A variety of mediums will be showcased including: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, fiber art, sculpture, ceramics, digital art and mixed media. Several York County art teachers will be represented among the artists, all of whom teach in Maine’s public and private schools and universities, and are members of the Maine Art Educators Association. The Seaglass Chorale is seeking new members for the spring season. Conducted by Artistic Director Jean Strazdes, the Seaglass Chorale invites adults who love to sing, and who enjoy the camaraderie of kindred musical spirits, to join. The theme for the spring concert is “An Evening of Musical Laughter.” Seaglass Performing Arts is a nonprofit, non-auditioned choral group founded in 1993. Pecha Kucha Kennebunk is looking for presenters for the next event, slated for Feb. 6 at River Tree Arts.
