To the Editor:

Ben Franklin said, “In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes.” In Brunswick’s District 1, nothing is certain but taxes and voting Byron D. Watson to the school board.

I can still remember well over a decade ago watching Byron score point after point for the Brunswick varsity basketball team. Byron scored so many points he is now in the top ten all-time scorers for the Dragons.

While on the track, Watson was crowned state champion five times and was a member of the last Brunswick track and field team to bring home the outdoor state title.

Byron went to the University of Southern Maine, where he set a high jump record and won a National Collegiate Athletic Association state championship before achieving his bachelor of arts in political science with a minor in history.

While accomplishing all these incredible feats, Byron was a member of the Political Science Students Association and worked relentlessly on many different local campaigns, including one with former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe.

All the while, Byron Watson played a vital role in the development of our younger generation. He was a counselor, a coach, a volunteer and an unpaid mentor to our children. Byron brought with him many years of success and will do the same on the school board, starting right after the inauguration ceremony in January.

It will be an honor to vote for Byron D. Watson on Tuesday. He is an honorable man I idolized as a role model in my youth and know and admire as an adult.

Join me and vote for Byron Watson.
