FREEPORT — Susan Bell, a student at Coastal Studies for Girls, won the “Special Independent Essay Award” in the The Ocean Awareness Student Contest.
The contest was launched by filmmaker Linda Cabot in 2011 as a companion to her environmental documentary “From the Bow Seat.”
The winning essays focused on threats to North Atlantic right whales, the role of forage fish in the ocean food web, and the threat of microplastics in the marine ecosystem.
