FREEPORT — The Town Council on Tuesday night will receive a petition to withdraw the town from Regional School Unit 5, and set the date for a special election to decide the issue.
The petition signatures have been collected and submitted to Town Clerk Tracey Stevens. The council is considering a Dec. 17 date for a special town meeting, and a Dec. 3 public hearing.
Also Tuesday, consultant Chuck Lawton will provide the council with an update on the estimated cost of leaving RSU 5.
Tuesday’s meeting at Town Hall begins at 6:30 p.m.
