BRUNSWICK — Harsh fumes filled the air and roads were closed for about an hour Tuesday as an oil tank in a residence failed.

Responders converged on a home near the corner of Spring and Weymouth streets around 5 p.m, when an oil tank in the basement of an apartment building there gave way.

Several trucks were on the scene, and nervous neighbors watched from their doorsteps. “No one was hurt,” Brunswick fire Lt. Steve Emmons said. “It was an older tank that had been leaking and it finally just went.”
