“Neighbors Investing in Neighbors” is the theme of a public forum by Vital Connections on Friday, Sept. 13.
The aim of the quarterly event at the Pilgrim House of the First Parish Church in Brunswick, 9 Cleaveland St., is to stimulate communities in the region to achieve selfreliance, working together to meet the challenges of the hard times that are ahead or already upon us.
Speaking will be David Whittlesey of Bowdoinham, a founder and manager of the Bowdoinham Community Development Initiative; Topsham resident Jamien Richardson, owner and principal of Cyon Business Solutions LLC and co-owner of Maine Harvest Company LLC; and James McCarthy, formerly of The Times Record and now senior writer at MaineBiz, a biweekly statewide business magazine based in Portland.
Vital Connections is an ongoing quarterly forum for active participants in projects for local self-reliance in Maine’s Mid-coast region.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
