BRUNSWICK — For the 19th year, a search for Maine’s top youth community service volunteer is under way.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, which recognize students who have made contributions through volunteer service, will solicit applications from state residents in grades 5-12 until Nov. 5.

The state’s top youth volunteers will be announced Feb. 11. Winners will be taken to Washington, D.C., May 3-6 for four days of special recognition events, along with the top two applicants from every other state and the District of Columbia.
Winners from Maine for 2013 included Katherine Elliott of Scarborough and Marissa Bates of Westbrook.
Established in 1995, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards has grown into the nation’s largest youth recognition program based entirely on community service.
