FREEPORT — Valeria Steverlynck will replace Brenda Kielty on the Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors.

The Freeport Town Council chose Steverlynck from among two candidates during its meeting Tuesday night. Town Manager Peter Joseph said Steverlynck should be able to assume her new duties when the RSU 5 board meets on Sept. 11, at Freeport High School.

The council chose Steverlynck because she is willing to be a candidate on the November ballot, Joseph said. Meanwhile, she will serve the remaining two months of Kielty’s term. Kielty left the board this summer because she has moved to Portland.
