To the Editor:

In his letter published on Aug. 16 (“‘Love thy neighbor’ poor pro-choice choice,” Page A8), Mr. Ricker made an unfortunate false assumption that I am a non-Christian.

I was baptized as a Christian when I was 9 months old, have worshiped in Christian communities since then and am a follower of Jesus.

It is my understanding that when Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law which was given to the nation of Israel. See Romans 10:4, Galatians 3:23-25, Ephesians 2:15.

Clearly, there are many ways to understand the word of God as put forth in the Bible.

Life is precious. I stand for the girls and women who die giving birth to life because they are forced to keep a pregnancy which threatens their lives.

I believe that girls and women have the right to life when giving birth to life.

It is critical that girls and women have access to safe abortions.

Girls and women around the world are dying as I write because they do not have such access.

“Pro-choice” does not mean “pro-abortion.”
