LUDLOW, Mass. (AP) — An 81-year-old Ludlow man police say struck and killed an 85-year-old woman standing on the sidewalk is now facing charges.
Police say Moises Afonso is being charged with operating to endanger and failure to stay in marked lanes. His license has also been revoked by the state Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Police say Afonso was heading south on Highland Avenue on Wednesday morning when his Nissan Rogue struck a parked car, went onto the sidewalk and hit Ilda Goncalves, dragging her for a short distance until striking a utility pole. Goncalves was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
