RICHMOND — On Saturday, Sept. 7, Richmond American Legion Post 132 will host the National Commander’s Banquet, and time is running out to register.

A social hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

The meal, catered by The Railway Café, will include beef tips, stuffed chicken, baked haddock, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies, rolls, ice cream and cookies for dessert.

Harpswell Post 171 is sponsoring breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Merriconeag Grange, 529 Harpswell Neck Road.

The menu includes eggs Benedict, western omelet or mushroom omelet, with toast and choice of sausage or ham, home fries, drink and fruit cup. The cost is $8 per person, and $4 for children younger than 12.

Light up the sky

A fireworks show is planned Saturday, Aug. 31, at Mitchell Field on Harpswell Neck Road, Route 123, Harpswell. The gathering begins at 5 p.m. and lasts until dark.

Post 171 will have a food tent offering hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and cold drinks. For more information, call 833-5583.

A golf scramble is planned for Sept. 16 at Falmouth Country Club. There will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The event is sponsored by Gray Post 86.

There will be various events such as longest drive, closest to the pin and putting contests. The event is in support of Kieve Veterans Camp which offers free programs that support veterans and their families, giving them a chance to relax, reflect and reconnect in the tranquility of the Maine woods.

A POW/MIA Remembrance Day Ceremony is planned Sept. 21 at Gardiner Post 4 in the POW/MIA Park, at 11 a.m. A light lunch will be served after.
