ALTOONA, Pa. — Mel Rojas Jr., delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth inning as the Altoona Curve downed the Portland Sea Dogs, 2-0, in Eastern League play on Thursday.
Altoona took two of three in the series, and the Sea Dogs head to Harrisburg to take on the Senators tonight at 7 p.m.
Curve pitcher David Bromberg fired eight scoreless frames on two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. He held the Sea Dogs hitless through 5.1 innings. Shannon Wilkerson’s double in the sixth broke up the no-hit bid. Ryan Dent added an eight-inning single, and Kenn Kasperek picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.
Portland starter Terry Doyle matched zeros with Bromberg, tossing seven innings on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Pete Ruiz relieved to begin the eighth, and permitted two runs. Alex Dickerson doubled to open the frame. After a single, Rojas Jr., delivered a two-run triple for the game’s only runs.
