AUGUSTA — Lawmakers from Androscoggin County are urging passage of Gov. LePage’s transportation bond proposal they say would enable $22 million to create jobs and fix local roads and bridges.
LD 1095, a bond proposal introduced by LePage and the state Department of Transportation in March, would invest $100 million in road, bridge, and other infrastructure improvements. DOT estimates the projects would directly create 2,800 new construction jobs and the benefits would be felt throughout the local economy. The bond must be approved by voters if it passes the Legislature.
State Rep. Dale Crafts, RLisbon, said “we should pass the one bond we agree on, and that is the governor’s transportation bill. Another round of political maneuvering will put thousands of jobs and the safety of our roads at risk.”
Replacement of the Durham Bridge over the Androscoggin River between Durham and Lisbon is one of the endangered projects, legislative Republicans said.
