Democratic state Senate candidate Eloise Vitelli has claimned the endorsements of unions representing teachers and state workers.
In a news release, Vitelli said the Maine Education Association and Maine State Employees Union, MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 have both endorsed her candidacy to represent Senate District 19.
“As a former pre-school teacher, Eloise Vitelli understands the concerns of all educators,” MEA President Lois Kilby-Chesley said. “The school districts in Senate District 19 have been hammered by the state’s unwillingness to properly fund our schools.”
MSEA President Ginette Rivard said Vitelli would “stand up to Governor LePage and his extreme ideological agenda that puts the wealthy ahead of working Mainers, and she will respect the important work state employees do everyday in delivering high quality services to Maine families.”
Vitelli is a former Head Start pre-school teacher who served for 10 years on the school board in Arrowsic. She has a graduate degree in education from the University of Southern Maine. She faces Paula Benoit, a former Republican state senator from Phippsburg; and Daniel Stromgren, a Green Independent candidate from Topsham, in a special election Aug. 17.
