To the Editor:
Nothing seems to have changed over the years. It used to be that people arrested with a connection to the Navy were quickly pointed out as “former Navy” or, in one case, “ex-wife of former Navy officer.” Now it seems that it is our police.
Your July 10 article about Adonis Hill (“Former officer arrested,” July 10, Page A1) included that he had been on the Brunswick police force for a short time ending 11 years ago.
I would challenge you to explain how that statement was newsworthy or added any value to the article. I do not see you including “former Times Record employee” or “former LL Bean employee” when that is the case.
Let’s aim for unbiased journalism.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
