BOWDOINHAM — As part of its major summer exhibit, “Every Maine Lighthouse,” 65 oils by Ernest DeRaps of Richmond, Merrymeeting Arts Center will host a slideshow with DeRaps on Sunday, July 21m at 3 p.m.
DeRaps, 86, decided to paint every Maine lighthouse in a rush in retirement. The current exhibit, on view until Sept. 22, is the first showing of the entire collection.
The former lighthouse keeper raised his six children partly at the four stations the family kept. He was also a photographer and is a retired U.S. Coast Guardsman.
The center is sponsoring two other events. On Saturday, Aug. 10, Duane Prugh will lead a talk on “Kennebec Lights and the Men who Manned Them” at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, there will be a guided walk to a Kennebec lighthouse site led by Prugh at 9 a.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
