WELLS (AP) — A Maine woman is giving thanks to one of former President George H.W. Bush’s sons for coming to her rescue.
Shirley Polinger had six passengers on board her boat when her engine conked out Saturday between Kennebunkport and Wells.
She tells the Portland Press Herald she flagged down a passing boat that turned out to be the Fidelity IV, one of the former president’s boats he keeps at the family compound in Kennebunkport, being operated by Neil Bush.
Polinger says she asked if she could borrow a knife to cut away a suspected entanglement around her engine propeller, but that Bush instead jumped into the water and felt around the propeller himself. When he couldn’t find any entanglement, he towed Polinger’s boat to shore in Wells Harbor.
