PORTLAND — The Eastern League, in conjunction with the New Britain Rock Cats, has announced the rosters for the 2013 Eastern League All- Star Game.
The Portland Sea Dogs will send four players to the midsummer classic; pitchers Drake Britton and Anthony Ranaudo, infielder Michael Almanzar and catcher Christian Vazquez.
The All-Star game will be played on July 10 at New Britain Stadium in Connecticut. The game features players of the Eastern Conference taking on the Western Conference All-Stars. Each team will roster 24 players.
Almanzar is hitting .280, with a team-leading 11 home runs and 49 RBIs.
Left-handed pitcher Britton has started 14 games and has notched a 6-6 record with a 3.74 earned-run average. He was the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week June 3-9 after tossing 22.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
Ranaudo has an Eastern League-leading 2.28 ERA, with 86 strikeouts (second in the league) in 79 innings. Batters have hit .180 against the righty, who is 7-2.
And, Vazquez, rated by Baseball America as the best defensive catcher in the Boston Red Sox system, has 25 RBIs in 48 games for the Sea Dogs. He has thrown out 28 of 62 base stealers (45.2 percent) this season, second in the Eastern League.
