Cadillac, GM’s legendary luxury brand, has begun changing things up in its line of vehicles so it can better compete with international brands. Actually, it would appear that Cadillac management is looking to German automaker BMW for inspiration in building its line-up. Cadillac’s first important decision was to develop a small car that could compete with BMW’s ever-popular 3 Series. That inspiration became the all-new Cadillac ATS, currently offered as a sedan but soon to appear in other configurations. For now, it is being sold with a choice of a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine, a turbo four, or a V-6. The fourcylinder and V-6 have automatic transmissions, while the turbo is available with a manual transmission.

All come with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The current CTS model, now marketed as a compact car, will grow slightly to become a mid-sized vehicle that resembles the BMW 5 Series. This year, Cadillac’s biggest sedan is the frontwheel driven V-6-powered all-new XTS, although rumor has it that a bigger V-8 Caddy is on the way. Cadillac dealers still have SUVs in their line-up, including the most recent and very popular SRX compact truck and all three full-sized Avalanche models. These are expected to undergo some integral changes in the coming year or so.
