Gypsy, which opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21, as Lake Region Community Theatre brings it alive on the stage at Lake Region High School, tells the story of the maniacally driven Mama Rose, who relentlessly pushed her two daughters, June and Louise, into show business back in the days of vaudeville and burlesque.
For choreographer Pam Collins-Stahle, it’s a musical where real life meets the stage.
“This particular story of a child growing up in show business and trying to find her niche is simply intriguing to me,” says Collins-Stahle. “Transcending the essence of dance during the vaudeville era has also been extremely exciting. So, I delved into classic dance movies for inspiration from stars such as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelley, Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple.”
The artistic choreography by Collins-Stahle adds to the skilled direction of Director Mary Bastoni. Through the hard work of the actors and actresses, this show will come to life in front of your eyes.
Gypsy will run for six performances during the next two weekends. Show time is also at 7:30 p.m. on June 22, 28 and 29 and 2 p.m. on June 23 and 30.
