Sometimes a little generosity makes the whole day better.
For example, when one is performing one’s civic duty to safeguard the democratic process by monitoring a polling station on a chilly, rainy, windy day. And then Cook’s Lobster House sends over a batch of sandwiches and soup for lunch.
Such beneficence has become an Election Day regularity for poll workers at Voting Precinct Three in the Orr’s Island Schoolhouse.
It’s a welcome gesture, said warden Jan Coombs — especially when weather keeps voters at bay. “They’re amazing,” Coombs said of the famous eatery at the end of the Cribstone Bridge.
Hostess Alice Griffin braved the rain to take the order.
“When it was ready, she brought it back over to us,” Coombs said.
Six people work Princinct Three. Half ordered chicken salad, half ordered soup and salad.
“It’s been a slow day at the polls,” Coombs added. “Lunch was the highlight of our day.”
