HARSPWELL — Two local outdoor organizations will host the fourth annual Harpswell Hiking Challenge on June 1-2, offering a competition to hike eight waterfront trails in one or two days.
The challenge is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Harpswell Recreation and Harpswell Heritage Land Trust will sponsor the event, a localized celebration of National Trails Day. For 21 years the American Hiking Society has promoted the celebration of America’s trail systems, as well as the supporters and volunteers who maintain them.
Harpswell’s event will start at Cliff Trail, directly behind the Town Office on Mountain Road.
Light refreshments, water, restroom facilities, participation sheets and guides will be available.
For more information or to obtain a participation form, browse the town’s web site, www.harpswell.maine.gov, call 833-5771 or email recreation@ town.harpswell.me.us.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
