The family of the late Elford “Brud” Stover will take part in opening ceremonies on Friday, June 7 as the B&W Golf Classic that he founded begins at Bath Golf Club.
The Morse High School class of 1953 will pay a special tribute to Stover, widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes ever at both Morse and Bowdoin College.
“Team Stover” will play in the classic and the entire Stover Family will be recognized.
“All a fitting tribute to Brud and the impact he had on others,” said organizer David Flaherty.
Stover died last Oct. 5, at the age of 77. He created the Blue & White Golf Classic with Morse students in mind. Most of the proceeds go toward scholarships.The tournament generated $43,000 in net proceeds last year, with $38,000 going to the school’s scholarship fund.
The class of ‘63 also is holding a silent auction with nice items such as Red Sox tickets, golf packages and jewelry, so the public and spectators are welcome, Flaherty said.
“It’s a fun time at the end of the day with raffle items, and we’ll announce winners,” Flaherty said.
