GOULD 15

Despite the gray drizzle settling down around the Gould Academy turf on Saturday, Hyde scored first on a Jimmy Talbott goal.

With a lot of help from goalie Noah Horning, the first quarter came to a close with Hyde trailing just 2-1.

The second quarter began in a similar fashion as Ben Burlock and Zack Heatley each notched a score, while Gould also put one away for a 3-3 tie. Mike Harris set the tempo in the midfield and Hyde hung tough.

However, Horning earned himself a spot in the penalty box for a crosscheck. With no back-up goalie on the roster, midfielder Teo Meyerhoff manned the nets and Gould led 6-3 at the half.

The banged-up Phoenix failed to maintain this pace, as injuries to Joe Stanchina and Nabil Eshraghian left the team with a deficit at midfield in a tough second half when Gould scored nine unanswered goals.

Hyde dipped to 4-7 and is scheduled to compete in the MAISAD semifinals on Wednesday. MTN. VALLEY 5 MORSE GIRLS 20

On Friday, the Shipbuilders traveled to Readfield and fell to 6-2.

“Morse had control of the game for three solid quarters until in the fourth,” said head coach Jay Paulus. “Penalties killed us, allowing for six goals on five man-down situations. We can’t win games with this level of play.”
