Brunswick police arrested a man Tuesday they say tried to cash a forged check made out for $5,000.
Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Brunswick Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said police were called to the ACE Cash Express on Pleasant Street where David Gillison, 31, of Woolwich, was trying to cash a forged check from the Sagadahoc County administrative office made out in the amount of $5,000.
The clerks thought something was wrong with the check and called police, who contacted the Sagadahoc County administrative office and were told the office had issued a $10 check to Gillison for some “court services,” but had not released a $5,000 check to him.
Police arrested Gillison and charged him with Class C forgery. Gillison was on probation and had two sets of bail conditions for previous charges of felony theft and felony forgery charges. As a result, police also charged Gillison with violation of conditions of release and his probation officer placed a probation hold on him. He was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland and was given a July 16 court date.
