FREEPORT — Dan Burke tossed a three-hitter and got strong defensive backing from center fielder Connor Dietrich and shortstop Niko DiFazio as Freeport High School posted a 4-2 Western Maine Conference baseball win over Gray-New Gloucester on Friday.
The Falcons improved to 3-4 and are scheduled to host Greely today.
Burke struck out nine and walked only one.
Erick Ferraras had two singles and a third-inning RBI, while Jack Davenport chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.
Dietrich made a sparkling catch and throw to first base for a double play and DiFazio made a standout diving catch of a liner to end the game.
Losing pitcher Tyler St. Pierre had seven strikeouts and three walks and helped his own cause with a lead-off home run. Brendan McNally and Thomas Wood doubled in the seventh for G-NG (1-7).
LISBON 4
MADISON 5
Cody Saucier’s run-scoring single in the seventh allowed Madison to rally for a walkoff Mountain Valley Conference win over the Greyhounds on Friday.
The Bulldogs trailed 4-2, but three consecutive Lisbon (3-5) errors made for a 4-3 contest. A groundball scored the tying run, and Saucier followed with a single along the left-field line.
Tucker Brannon pitched well for Lisbon, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out three. Kyle Bourget had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove in a pair.
Saucier and Chris Malloy combined on four strikeouts and two walks on the mound for Madison (3-4).
CAMDEN HILLS 7
MORSE 4
The visiting Windjammers broke a tie by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh for a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over 5-2 Morse on Friday.
Tied 4-4, Coleman Powers led off the seventh with his second double. After an error, Powers scored on a passed ball for a 5-4 lead. Camden (5- 2) tacked on two more runs to complete the scoring.
Powers led off the third inning with a double and later scored for a 1-0 lead.
Morse answered in the home half of the frame, scoring three runs on four hits. Trenton Moore, Aaron Barrett, Chris Paulus and Paul Whalen delivered the hits.
Camden took a 4-3 lead in the fourth, but Morse tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single by Paulus.
Moore pitched well for Morse, while Chandler Crans picked up the mound win for the Windjammers. Paulus was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Morse, scheduled to host lincoln Academy today.
