The Maine Forest Service is probing the cause of a woods fire that burned about an acre and a half Sunday afternoon. 

Topsham Fire Department Capt. Greg Payson said the fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. in a wooded area of the Harry C. Crooker & Sons pit along Route 196. The wind was pushing the fire so Payson called for mutual aid from Brunswick and Lisbon fire departments.

Crews had the fire under control within approximately a half-hour and all units cleared the scene by 4:43 p.m. West Bath covered Topsham’s station.

Sunday was an elevated Class 3 fire day, Payson said; no burning permits were issued. Authorities are warning of any open burning, with a weather forecast for dry weather all week.

Class 3 indicated “high” fire danger on a scale of 1 to 5; Class 5 is “extreme” danger.
