BATH — Lawyers across the state will spend time in local libraries on Law Day, Wednesday, May 1, to provide resources and assistance to people in need, talk about statewide legal issues and meet with library patrons.
The free public event will take place noon to 2 p.m. at Patten Free Library. Appointments are not necessary.
The Maine Justice Action Group organized Lawyers in Libraries: Law Day 2013 to provide citizens with access to legal advice and information and demonstrate how legal access is critical to a community’s well-being. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet with a lawyer and receive information about free resources, low-cost legal assistance and legal referrals. In addition, some attendees will have the opportunity for a brief private consultation with an attorney about personal legal matters.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
