Liability insurance is holding up proposed production of a Portland band’s music video at Mitchell Field.
Freelance video producer and Harpswell native Jay Brown wants to film a video for Greywinds, a Portlandbased heavy metal band, at the 900-acre municipal recreation site. But selectmen want proof of coverage, and Brown at the moment doesn’t have any.
Board members heard, and ultimately tabled, Brown’s request during its April 11 meeting. They didn’t reject Brown’s request to film the video, according to Town Administrator Kristi Eiane, “but they’re really looking for insurance to be provided” before approving it.
Brown asked if selectmen would consider a waiver, to which they responded it would be “unlikely.”
Brown said he currently is searching for a way to resolve the issue.
No timetable has been set for a response.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
